How do I know if my child is eligible for Camp?
  1. All campers, “heart kids” as well as one sibling, must be 7-14 years of age at the time of camp.
  2. “Heart kids” are eligible if they have had open heart surgery at Levine Children’s Hospital.
  3. If they have not had open heart surgery at Levine Children’s Hospital, “heart kids” are eligible if they are patients of either Sanger Heart and Vascular Institute, Novant Health Heart & Vascular Institute or Asheville Cardiology Associates AND meet one of these criteria:
    • Have had open heart surgery at another institution OR
    • Have significant structural or functional heart disease, as defined by the “heart kid’s” pediatric cardiologist OR
    • Have significant arrhythmic heart disease, as defined by the “heart kid’s” pediatric cardiologist OR
    • Have other heart disease(s) which the pediatric cardiologist feels causes a significant impact on the child’s life.
  4. The definition of a sibling is someone with whom the heart kid lives a significant portion of the time.
  5. We regret that Camp LUCK does not have the facilities or the staff to care for children with developmental disabilities or with physical disabilities unrelated to their hearts.
  6. If you have questions about your child’s eligibility for Camp LUCK, please ask your pediatric cardiologist.

What is Family Camp?

Family Camp provides a weekend experience for heart families to leave their worries behind and have the time of their lives!

What is Kids Camp?

Kids Camp is a week-long experience for heart kids and one sibling, ages 7-14, to have a camp experience in a safe, medically supervised environment.

How much does Camp cost?

Participation in Kids Camp is free to attend thanks to our annual fundraisers and generous donors.

Participation in Family Camp is free to all, but we do require a refundable $100 deposit to secure your reservation. Families with more than four members will be charged $25 per additional person to cover the cost of food for the weekend.

If you would like your deposit refunded after Family Camp, please let Kim Jackson know as you leave camp. If you choose to consider your deposit as a donation to Camp LUCK, a 501(c)(3) organization, a tax receipt will be emailed to you.

* $100 deposit is non-refundable if you cancel

** $25 fee for family members beyond four is non-refundable

Where are Camps held?

All camps are held at Camp Cherokee, which is nestled in 7,000 beautiful acres at Kings Mountain State Park.

When is 2021 Family Camp?

Family Camp is scheduled for Friday, September 17 until Sunday, September 19, 2021. Due to the large number of families wanting to attend Family Camp, we ask that your family commit to the entire weekend. If your family has sporting events that interfere with the weekend, please choose to attend one or the other.

When is 2021 Kids Camp?

Kids Camp is Sunday, August 8, 2021 until Friday, August 13, 2021. Registration will open on April 1st. An Eligibility Form must be filled out for all campers. After our medical team confirms eligibility, we will email a registration link.

How does the Family Camp lottery registration system work?

Cabin and tent reservations are assigned through a lottery system.

All lottery registrations will be entered into our computer system, and the computer will run a random lottery to determine camp reservations and waitlist spots.

What are the 2021 lottery dates?

Registration for the Family Camp Lottery will be open from Friday, April 30 at 8:00am to Sunday, May 2nd at 11:59pm. The lottery will be run on Monday, May 3rd.

How will I know if I received a spot in Family Camp?

Parents will be texted after the lottery run to notify them if they received a tent/cabin spot or if they are waitlisted. If you receive a spot, a follow-up email will come with a link to complete registration and pay the commitment fee. The commitment fee must be received within 24 hours to confirm registration otherwise your spot will be forfeited and offered to the next family on the waitlist.

Please note: If a family does not get in for tent camping they are automatically added to cabin lottery.
