How do I know if my family is eligible for Family Camp?
Your heart child must live in the Charlotte area and be a current patient at Atrium Health Levine Children’s HEARTest Yard Congenital Heart Center, Novant Health Heart & Vascular Institute, or Asheville Cardiology Associates.
What does Family Camp cost?
Participation in Family Camp is free, but we require a refundable $100 deposit to secure your reservation. Families with more than four members will be charged $25 per additional person to cover the cost of food for the weekend.
If you would like your deposit refunded after Family Camp, please let Kim Jackson know as you leave camp. If you choose to consider your deposit as a donation to Camp LUCK, a 501(c)(3) organization, a tax receipt will be emailed to you.
* $100 deposit is non-refundable if you cancel
** $25 fee for family members beyond four is non-refundable
Where is Family Camp held?
It is located at YMCA Camp Cherokee, nestled in 7,000 beautiful acres at Kings Mountain State Park. Address: 1299 Camp Cherokee Road, Kings Mountain State Park, Blacksburg SC 29702
When is Family Camp?
Family Camp runs from 5pm on Friday, May 17, 2024, until 1pm Sunday, May 19, 2024. Due to many families wanting to attend Family Camp, we ask that your family commit to the entire weekend. If your family has sporting events that interfere with the weekend, please choose to attend one or the other.
How does the lottery registration system work?
We assign cabin and tent reservations using a random lottery system. Here’s how it works:
- The lottery randomly selects from all registrations to allocate camp reservations and waitlist spots.
- If you opt for tent camping and don’t secure a spot, don’t worry – your family will automatically be entered into the cabin lottery. There’s no need to apply separately for cabin camping if you’ve already applied for tent camping.
- Remember, our cabins are limited. Therefore, if your family opts for tent camping, you’ll need to bring your own camping gear, such as a tent, tarps, and sleeping bags.
When can I register for the lottery?
Lottery registration is open for two days. Tent camping registration starts on February 7th and lasts for 24 hours. This is followed by cabin registration, which opens on February 8th and is also available for 24 hours.
When will the lottery be run?
How will I know if I received a spot in camp?
After we run the lottery, we’ll let you know if you’ve got a spot for a tent or cabin, or if you’re on the waitlist. If you get a spot, look out for an email from us with a link to pay your commitment fee. Make sure to complete your CampDoc profile and pay the fee within 24 hours to lock in your spot. If you don’t, we’ll have to give your spot to the next family waiting in line.
SAW (Stay-All-Weekend) Policy
To maximize the Family Camp experience for all, Family Camp has a Stay-All-Weekend (SAW) policy. This policy requires that your family attends the entire weekend…i.e., Friday afternoon until Sunday lunch. Full attendance is important for everyone involved because bonds build over our time together. These include bonds within your family, between your family and others, and between your family and our staff. When people leave early (for sports, recitals, meetings, or any other reason), or if they leave and return, this is disruptive to the overall camp experience.
